FYI, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel/Resort was closed due to damage from the 6.7 earthquake here last October. To the best of my knowledge it is still closed.

On the other hand, the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is definitely open and in my opinion (as a resident who lives just up the coast from this property) it is one of the finest hotel properties on this island. Pricey — but definitely worth it.
Thanks, B N Sullivan, for your comment. Yes, I believe you are correct that the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is closed. I have not seen any announcement or plans on reopening. Also, the golf course was due to close on May 1st for upgrades. https://www.govisithawaii.com/2007/04/12/upgrades-planned-for-mauna-kea-golf-course/
Oh, and one more thing, I’m jealous that you live by the Kohala Coast. 🙂
