While we were practically staying next door at Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina, we couldn’t resist checking out Paradise Cove Luau. We knew that the sunset location would be excellent and we’d heard good things about this luau.
One thing we enjoyed about this luau is that there’s some sort of entertainment from the moment you arrive and that continues for the rest of the evening.
We followed the winding paths to the Mai Tai (or punch) and lei greeting. We had the lowest level luau package, which included a shell lei greeting. Upgraded packages include fresh flower lei and or kukui nut lei.
A full slate of activities and presentations preceded dinner and the Polynesian dance and music show. This part is where Paradise Cove distinguishes itself from other luaus as there was always something to observe and participate in. The coconut tree climbing with the shower of flowers seemed to be a big hit with our fellow “luau-ers.”
The beach activities were also popular with canoe rides and a hukilau (net fishing) demonstration.
While others were participating in the activities, we couldn’t keep our eyes off the golden hour sun light on the rugged west Oahu coast.
The dedicated grounds and seating for the imu ceremony, which is the unearthing of the food cooked in the in-ground oven, is another point that sets Paradise Cove apart from other luaus we’ve seen. the ceremony and presentations were very good.
Next we were seated for the buffet dinner. The food was on par with the many other luaus we’ve attended. You can review their luau menu here.
The show was okay. Honestly, we did expect more performers considering the size of audience. If you’ve never been to a luau, the performance definitely checks the box for decent entertainment, but as seasoned “luau-ers” we were not wowed.
The show did include a fireknife dancer which is always a crowd pleaser.
