Honua Kai Resort offers the comforts of home but with the added amenities of a resort. This all-suite resort offers guests their own, fully-equipped gourmet kitchen, living areas, a large lanai, separate bedroom(s) with large baths. With all the high-end appliances and furnishings, staying at Honua Kai gives you the feeling of living like a rockstar in your personal Maui villa.

The location

Honua Kai is located on North Kaanapali Beach, which is a great location for a Maui vacation. This section of Kaanapali Beach is north and away from the “busier” beach area which makes it feel more private.

The address for Honua Kai Resort is 130 Kai Malina Pkwy, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, USA.

The suites

With Honua Kai being a relatively new resort (opened in 2009), everything feels fresh and clean. Our two-bedroom suite was spotless.

The granite and stainless steel kitchens included all the pots, pans, plates and utensils needed for cooking and dining. Though our stay was short, we did enjoy cutting up some fresh island fruits in the kitchen to enjoy from the lanai. If we had stayed longer we would have loved to stock up on some groceries from the store across the street for more meals.

Fluffy white towels and Aveda toiletries made the extra spacious baths feel luxurious. If I could add one more luxury amenity to the rooms, it would be bathrobes.

The two-bedroom Honua Kai suites are idea for two couples sharing a suite. Each bedroom is set up like an owners suite with king beds and adjacent bathrooms.

Suites are equipped with a stackable washer and dryer. The resort even provides a starter kit including Hawaii made laundry detergent.

The amenities

Honua Kai offers guests a great selection of pools. Kids of all ages can enjoy the pool with the water slide. For adults looking for a more serene location, there’s an adult-only pool. As we walked around the property, there seemed to be plenty of space for everyone without crowding and wall-to-wall humanity.

Snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach umbrellas and loungers are available for rent on a daily or hourly basis. See this photo for what’s offered and the associated rates.

Concierge services are provided as you need. They do a great job providing fun Maui activity ideas via social media on facebook and twitter. They genuinely seem to want to help you make the most of your time on Maui.

Though the villa/condo accommodations feels like a home away from home, daily housekeeping is included.

The restaurants

The two onsite restaurants — Duke’s Beach House and Aina Gourmet Market — are two very good ones. During our brief two-night stay, we visited both restaurants multiple times.

A slice of Hula Pie from Dukes Beach House is a slice of dessert heaven. The combination of macadamia nut ice cream on a cookie crust with chocolate sauce, macadamia nuts and whipped cream is deeelish!

What to know before you go:

Daily resort fee of $25 per night which includes fitness room access, internet, suite starter kit (with dish soap, laundry detergent, dryer sheets and a sponge), local phone calls and valet or self-parking.

– For Honua Kai special offers, check out their deals page. I really like their Aina Gourmet Coffee Experience package that includes suite accommodations  rental car, tour of O’o Farms, a $200 Gift Certificate to Pacific’O and more with rates starting at $354 per night.

As a matter of disclosure, our stay at Honua Kai was arranged via the #seeMaui visit. As always, we only write the same advice on Go Visit Hawaii that we would share with our friends and family.
