Over 1500 Mahalos to You!

I was recently reviewing some statistics for Go Visit Hawaii and I noticed that we have over 1500 comments! That rocks! I very much appreciate your comments. Even if you have a different point of view than mine, your comments are welcomed.

If you’ve not been reading the comments, then you’ve been missing out on some valuable insight. Sometimes readers will ask questions in the comments and I respond to them in detail. I’m happy to say that many other folks who enjoy traveling to Hawaii read Go Visit Hawaii and they often comment with their recommendations from their travels. I’m also very pleased that many Hawaii residents read Go Visit Hawaii and they frequently comment to add their local perspective. So, there are some really useful comments and discussions happening. As a small token of appreciation, I thought it would be fun to give away a waterproof carry case to one randomly selected person who comments on this post. As you’ve probably already read, these waterproof cases will come in very handy for storing your valuables at the beach or pool. So, please add a comment to this post before midnight ET May 1, 2008 to be eligible.

If you’ve never commented before, it’s really quite easy. All you have to do is click on “Add Your Thoughts” or “Comments”. Next you’ll enter your name and e-mail address in the fields provided Note that your e-mail address will not be displayed in the comment. If you have a website or blog, you can list your web address, but that is optional. If it is your first time commenting, your comment will go into moderation at first to be approved.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get this comment party started. 🙂

  1. Congratulations on 1500 comments, that’s a great achievement. I think comments are what make a blog (not to say that you and other guest writers aren’t interesting to read!) so it’s great you’ve gotten this much interaction.

  2. There many days that Sheila will get more comments on a single post, than I do on my blog–that’s a sign of how much she loves engaging her readers.

    Well done sweetheart!

  3. Aloha! I have been reading your blog for a few weeks. My wife (of one month!) and I are planning our honeymoon on the Big Island and your blog has lots of great info! Keep up the good work!

  4. 1500 comments! WTG! It’s always nice when people take the time to post a comment. Whether it be a question, feedback or just to say Hey!

  5. @ Jim – I agree – it’s the “conversation” with comments that’s the heartbeat of a blog.

@ Andy – Aw, thanks! 🙂 FYI – since you are my husband, you are not eligible for the waterproof case. Nice try, though. 😛

@ Scott K – Aloha and mahalo for your first time comment which is music to my ears. I’m so glad that you are getting some useful information to help plan your honeymoon on the Big Island!

@ Lissete – Mahalo to you for being a long time subscriber! You have contributed many helpful comments based on your visit to Hawaii. By the way, have you started planning the next trip to Hawaii, yet? 😉

  6. Aloha! I had never seen a waterproof case like the one you described but it will definitely come in handy.

  7. Congratulations Sheila for receiving so many comments on your blog. I think only digg.com gets more! I wish our community blog could get half as many comments as you receive.

  8. @ Brian – Ha! I’m still amazed that someone who lives just a few miles away ran across this blog!

@ savvy – yeah, it sure will be useful for just about any water sport. Thanks for your first time comment!

@ Christian – Thank you. I’m sure there are bunches of blogs that get way more comments, but I’m happy about the fact that we’re headed towards a couple thousand. You were one of the early commentators here. I really appreciate you adding your local insight!

  9. I think this website is great! I just recently learned about it but now I look forward to reading it for tips. It’s so hard sometimes to trust what people say about certain places. Some like it some don’t so it’s hard to tell what’s really true. But taking a neutral stance and just letting us know about what you know is great!!! Thanks. My fiancee and I are going on our honeymoon in July and are going to Waikiki beach….any important tips on nightlife? It’s great of you to be giving out cool little things like this waterproof carry case. Keep up the posts everyone!

  10. Hi Nancy – I know what you mean about not knowing who and what to trust. I run across so many Hawaii sites with advice only to learn that they are trying to sell something. That’s why I like writing this unbiased site.

Honolulu is definitely Hawaii’s hot spot for nightlife! I don’t have any Waikiki nightlife tips from my personal experience, but I remembered this LA Times article that I included in a news round up at the end of February. It says Chinatown is the happening place: http://travel.latimes.com/articles/la-tr-chinatown24feb24

I hope you have a wonderful time on you honeymoon!

  11. WOW! Sheila! That’s fantastic!

You have a great blog. I’m a local but I like your perspective as a visitor. I have also noticed that many of your comments are from people who genuinely appreciate the articles.

    Hi Nancy… Try Skyline. http://www.sheraton-waikiki.com/de_skyline.htm

I’m getting old and I’m a bit out of touch with the local nightlife but I do know that the 30th floor of the Sheraton Waikiki (The Hanohano Room – Most amazing view in Waikiki) turns into a dance club twice a month from 9pm to 2am every first and third Saturday of the month. It operates at capacity so you may need to get yourself on a guest list so you might want to call the hotel or get there early. 12. Thanks Dave. It really is an honor to know that Hawaii residents read Go Visit Hawaii! You’ve been very supportive and I very much appreciate that!

  13. Hmmm… After re-reading my comment… It didn’t sound as flattering as I had hoped it would… What I meant to say was that I think you do a great job and it shows. I read a LOT of blogs and it’s rare for a Blogger to receive comments that express such genuine gratitude. Thank you for all of your hard work. 🙂

  14. Hi Dave – I thought your first comment was flattering, actually. Thank you again for making me blush. 🙂
